Lip Augmentation - Daffy Duck or Definitely Desireable?

Just about every woman wants the luscious look of Angelina Jolie’s lips but many end up looking like Daffy Duck after lip augmentation.

This procedure is becoming more and more popular. Women are particularly prone to this type of cosmetic surgery but a few men have also been known to have lip augmentation performed as well. There are various ways as to how lip augmentation can be performed. Many people do go under the knife to have them perfectly shaped while others prefer to have them injected with a temporary substance, like collagen. Some top celebrities, in particular, are known to have had collagen lip injections such as Pamela Anderson, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Dolly Parton and many more.

If you choose to have lip injections the process is relatively quick and painless. A local anesthesia is given to the patient and then one of the various types of substances that can be injected are used. These substances include collagen, fat, artecoll, dermalogen, autologen, restylane, hylaform and fascia. With this choice of lip augmentation the patient will be able to go home on the same day. These injections are normally temporary and therefore to maintain the same look, one will have to continuously have the injection about every three to eight months.

Know that that first day is not the day to call your friends over and have a party. Your lips will be swollen and not in that come hither, sex kitten sort of way.

If you are more interested in a long term type of lip augmentation, than you can go under the knife by having different types of substances implanted into your lips. Once again the surgery is rather simple and you will be released the same day. The operation on average takes about two hours to complete and you will be given a local anesthesia. There are four main options which plastic surgeons use as their basis for performing a lip augmentation.

The first type of cosmetic surgery is with the use of alloderm. Alloderm is made from collagen of , yep you heard it hear, dead people that is placed into the lip region with a small incision made on the inner lip. he collagen is taken from a tissue bank that stores the collagen after a person has passed away. Yes, I did a lot of rethinking on the whole organ donation process after reading that one.

The second type of surgery is by using fat grafting. This is when the plastic surgeon uses your own fat to be inserted into your lips. Yes, those nachos did eventually pay off!

This method sometimes offers permanent results but the patient should be aware that it is possible for the body to reabsorb the fat making the results temporary.

Another surgery that plastic surgeons use while using the patients own body is to use local flap grafts. This method is rather intense and is preferred not to be used unless absolutely necessary. With this method the plastic surgeon uses the patient’s skin and tissue from the mouth to enhance the lips. A more permanent type of surgery is by using synthetic materials to be inserted into the lips such as soft ePTFE, Gore Tex or SoftForm.

Normally the recovery of the patient is rather quick. There is often some swelling and soreness but this is temporary and leaves the bodies about 72 hours after the surgery is performed. Those patients who decide to have lip augmentation using the synthetic options will normally have a recovery rate of about two weeks.

Lip augmentation is definitely a popular cosmetic surgery that is reasonably priced. You just need to really research your plastic surgeon and decide if you want some dead person’s tissue on your face or your own. Ah the price we pay for beauty to go from hopefully Daffy to desirable.
